x402 payment evaluation

NexaLayer’s current API can create a USDT TRC20 order and poll its chain-confirmation status, but the caller must already control a compatible wallet. This is API-complete payment orchestration, not autonomous payment for an agent without a wallet. x402 is a strong candidate for pay-per-call or prepaid-credit acquisition because an HTTP 402 Payment Required challenge can carry machine-readable payment requirements. It should not be advertised as available until all of these are implemented and tested:
  • supported network, asset, facilitator, fees, and settlement-finality policy
  • owner-signed wallet authority with per-transaction and daily limits
  • replay protection binding payment proof to method, path, amount, expiry, and idempotency key
  • atomic crediting or fulfillment after verified settlement, with duplicate-proof reconciliation
  • refund and dispute handling, sanctions screening, accounting records, and key compromise response
  • SDK and MCP behavior for 402, approval, payment, retry, and receipt verification
The first production pilot should be capped, allowlisted, and separate from the existing TRC20 recharge path. No code in this release silently gives an agent custody of a wallet or authority to spend.
